Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minneapolis Police Department is investigating a shooting that claimed the life of a two-year-old child.

A statement from Minneapolis police says officers responded to a report of gunshots at the intersection of Penn Avenue and Lowry Avenue in North Minneapolis just before 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

When they arrived, the officers were told that two shooting victims had been transported to North Memorial Medical Center in a private vehicle. The two-year-old child who was struck by gunfire died at the hospital, while a 15-month-old child was being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Witnesses reported that both victims were inside a minivan that was hit by bullets.

Minneapolis investigators say it appears the gunfire was the result of a confrontation between individuals known to each other. At last report,no arrests have been made in the case. The names of the victims have not been released.
