Albert Lea, MN (KROC AM News) -  The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a suspicious death.

Officials say a team from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was called to the Albert Lea area after some human remains were discovered Monday evening along I-90. A nearby property owner called 911 around 6 PM and reported finding the remains near a fence next to a wooded area along the south side of the freeway about a half a mile east of the Highway 13 interchange on the northwest side of Albert Lea.

A statement issued Tuesday afternoon says the remains appear to be from a male and it appears they had been at that location for a number of years.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will attempt to identify the remains and determine the cause of death.
