Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - More than 40 tons of food. That’s what was collected during last weekend’s annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive in Rochester. Residents were asked to leave food items at their mailboxes and they were collected by local Postal Service letter carriers.

The food was turned over to Rochester-based Channel One and the regional food bank says the donations totaled 41,794 pounds. Channel One says Seneca Foods contributed another 41,476 pounds of food in honor of TJ Palmby and Preacher Palmby, former letter carriers.

That put the overall total at 83,270 pounds, higher than the 2017 total.

The local collection was part of a national food drive coordinated by the National Letter Carriers Association. It’s described as the largest one-day food drive in the country.
