Sunday night a 2 year-old Rochester boy underwent surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital after being severely bitten in the face by a pit bull.

It is believed that the toddler remains in critical condition at this time. Police Captain John Sherwin told KAAL-TV that he saw a picture of the boy after the attack but almost wishes he hadn't because it was that serious of an injury.

The incident happened at Elton Hills School playground around 8 p.m on Sunday night. The dog, described by its owner as an 8-year-old male pit bull, has been placed in quarantine.

An account has been set up at Sterling State Bank to help with medical expenses. If you're interested in making a contribution please make sure to mention that it is for the Avian Matthews Family Beneficiary Account.
