Area 3rd and 4th Graders Earn Cash Award for Service to Community! (WATCH)

In Plainview, there are some 3rd and 4th graders showing everyone how great it is to serve others. They're students at Immanuel Lutheran School in Plainview and they're the latest Cool Classroom Award Winners! from Y-105FM and Foresight Bank! We visited their classroom and brought $50 and so much love!

Amanda Bedke nominated the students, and their teacher Bretney Karsjens, saying they went so above and beyond living their Christian values in November and December...

Mrs. K's third and fourth-grade classroom is constantly seeking new opportunities to serve their community. Bretney Karsjens, their fearless teacher, and leader is an awesome inspiration!

Last November they conducted a school-wide food drive in which they planned Thanksgiving Meal Boxes for the Plainview-Elgin-Millville area food shelf. The class came up with a list of all of their favorite holiday foods, sent that list out to their fellow schoolmates, and conducted the drive.

Together with some Thrivent Action Team funds, they purchased additional items and turkeys. This was a great learning opportunity for these young shoppers in working with a budget, planning meals, and how to compare prices. The class then packaged each complete meal into a box and delivered these meals to the food shelf in time for Thanksgiving. The project was such a great hit, they did it again for Christmas this year collecting even more food and adding hams to the mix.

Additionally, this holiday season, Mrs. K lead her class and the entire school in a Toys for Tots round up to make sure kids who were less fortunate were still blessed with gifts this Christmas season. The gifts under the tree multiplied quickly as enthusiasm spread throughout the school.

Mrs. K teaches her students the importance of caring about others, and her classroom does an absolutely outstanding job of loving and serving their community. This award could not be more fitting of a truly compassionate group of kiddos and their great teacher.
