What’s Your Uniform?
A few weeks ago I read a story about the amount of time we burn through struggling with insignificant decisions. The smallest of decisions such as what to wear, what to eat or what presents to buy. The article said by combining 14 of these small daily decisions, you end up wasting two years and nine months of your life...
Should There Be An Age Requirement For Cell Phone Ownership?
If you're a parent, you've probably spent too many hours talking with your fellow parents about how to 'parent' the use of a cell phone. (Yes- 'parent' is a noun AND a verb in the 21st century!) Here is an interesting twist on the discussion...
Advice From Dear Old Dad
This morning James Rabe and I were discussing parenting advice and how to boil it down to one single sentence. There are times -like a baby shower or on Facebook- that I've been asked what advice *I* would give to new parents, and I've been left flat-footed...

I read with great interest the story of the principal in Washington D.C. who is ramping up a screen-free summer challenge for her students. Not so long ago I said, "Hey, do you guys want to do the Insane Inflatable course with me?" What I should have asked was "Hey, do you guys want to remind me what its like to be a kid?"
You might be wondering if the Insane Inflatable course is something your family would enjoy...
National Cancer Survivors Day on June 4th
This past weekend, I took part in the Relay For Life that was held at John Marshall High School. I was asked to speak to participants about being a cancer survivor. 29 years ago I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, went through treatment and continued on with my life...
Summer Screen Strategy
If you have a teen or a pre-teen in your life, you may have the same feeling of dread in the pit of your stomach that I have. How in heavens name am I going to manage my kids and their screens ALL...SUMMER....LONG.
Let me remind you of simpler times when there were no smart phones or screens...
Cancer Survivors Day Is June 4
No doubt about it, being diagnosed with cancer is one of the worst things you can hear. It's been 29 years for me and sometimes it feels just like it was yesterday. I've recently taken to saying that the fear doesn't go away, it just gets covered with dust...
