ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — St. Paul police say a man involved in a carjacking died in an exchange of gunfire with officers.

Police identified the man Monday as Yee Vang of St. Paul. They say he crashed his vehicle into a fence Sunday afternoon and then fired at bystanders before carjacking an SUV at gunpoint.

Police spokesman Howie Padilla says Vang shot at officers when they tried to stop him. Police fired back and shot Vang, who died on the way to the hospital.

A teenage bystander suffered a non-life-threatening injury. He's being treated at Children's Hospital. Sgt. Paul Paulos says it's unclear if he was hit by a bullet or shrapnel.

He says two officers suffered minor injuries. Four officers involved were placed on three-day administrative leave, following standard policy.
