Autopsy: WSU Student’s Death Caused by Severe Head Trauma

The Fountain City Police Department released some additional information about the investigation into the death of 21-year-old Brooke Baures Tuesday afternoon.

Officials say the investigation determined that “no crime occurred in this tragedy,” and preliminary autopsy results show the Winona State University student died from severe crushing injuries to her head. There were no eyewitnesses to the tragic accident, but authorities believe Baures, who was working alone on the second floor of the WingDam Saloon, was killed when she apparently reached into the food elevator after pushing the button to send it back to the first floor.

The dumbwaiter was removed from the business over the weekend at the direction of the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
