Rochester police officers had their hands full early Sunday dealing with a large melee that broke out in the downtown’s bar area. Captain John Sherwin says officers were called to the area of 3rd street and 1st avenue southwest around 1:30 a.m. and found dozens of people fighting.  He says there were so many people fighting that 1st avenue was blocked to traffic.

Sherwin says every available city officer was called to the scene to assist.  On duty Olmsted County deputies were also called in. Sherwin says the  brawl involved two groups of people.
