Rochester, MN(KROC AM News) - A house fire in Rochester Thursday is being blamed on a bird.

Crews were sent to a single family house at 1836 16th St NW just after 6 p.m. and found flames and smoke coming from the roof area. The fire was confined to the attic and the preliminary damage estimate was put at $15,000. No one was found inside the home. The house is located about two blocks north of the main Post office.

Deputy Chief Steven Belau says the preliminary investigation suggests that a bird’s nest built on top of a light fixture by the front door caught fire. The fire then entered the attic space through a soffit vent.
