Hastings, MN (KROC-AM News) - The latest information released about the death of a Rochester man in an officer-involved shooting in Hastings suggests he may have been armed with the blade from a box cutter. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says the blade was found at the scene of the confrontation Monday evening that ended with 23-year-old Keagan Johnson-Lloyd being shot multiple times by Hastings Police Officer Geoff Latsch.

A statement from the BCA says the deadly incident was recorded by the body cameras worn by Officer Latsch and his partner, but the BCA has not provided any information on what prompted the officer to open fire. The two officers encountered Johnson-Lloyd walking on a street about two hours after he walked away from a group home where he had stabbed and wounded his roommate.

Johnson-Lloyd’s mother stated earlier in the week that her son had been struggling with mental illness and drug addiction in recent years. Back in March, he was arrested after allegedly attacking a family member with a hammer at a home in Rochester.
