The elementary school in Brownsdale will close at the end of this school year.

It's been a discussion for some time now, and tonight, the Hayfield Community School Board voted to close the school.  The meeting was short, the vote was unanimous, and the school board said it was a very hard decision to make.

Finances and declining enrollment were the chief concerns of the school district, which is currently operating in the red. About $300,000 will be saved by closing Brownsdale Elementary. Maintenance costs were also a concern.
