Albert Lea, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Brownsville man has been convicted of second-degree for a fatal shooting last summer at Myre-Big Island State Park near Albert Lea. A Freeborn County Jury also found 27-year-old David Easter guilty of a gross misdemeanor charge charge for carrying a gun without a permit.

He was arrested last August after he shot and killed 23-year-old Spencer Brown after the two men were involved in an altercation at a campground in the State Park. Easter was the person who called 911 to report the shooting and claimed he was acting in self-defense even though the victim was fatally shot while sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle with the windows up, the transmission in reverse and his foot on the brake.

The judge in the case ordered a pre-sentence investigation before scheduling a sentencing hearing.
