Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The bitter cold air that arrived in the region overnight came within one degree of the record for the date and created the coldest conditions seen in Rochester in over 9-months. The National Weather Service says the unofficial low temperature this morning was 3-degrees below zero. The record of -4 was set in 1989 and the last time it was that cold in Rochester was on February 12 when the morning low was 5-below zero. The Austin area saw the coldest air in the region with both Austin and Dexter reporting low of -8. It hit 5-below in Mabel and Hayfield, while Stewartville and Dodge Center both reported it dropped to -4.
Warmer air is already pushing into southern Minnesota. Forecasters are predicting an overnight low around 20-degrees and daytime highs near the freezing mark the next couple days. Looking ahead to Thanksgiving, the National Weather Service says the afternoon highs could climb into the low 40’s on the holiday and Black Friday.
