Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester Police responded to a report of a shooting last night in a neighborhood near the Rochester Community and Technical College campus.

Captain John Sherwin says a 53-year-old woman called 911 around 10:10 pm and reported that a bullet had been fired into her apartment in the 1700 block of 8 ½ Street Southeast. The bullet passed through a window and an interior wall before it became lodged in a kitchen cabinet.

The responding officers soon learning the shooting actually occurred around 9:30 pm. Captain Sherwin says a language barrier likely caused the delay in reporting the incident. He also says it does not appear the woman or her residence were specifically targeted and the bullet may have been a stray shot. Officers did not find any spent shell casings nearby but did find an unfired bullet on a sidewalk, a fair distance away from the apartment.
