Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - A man described by Rochester police as a career criminal was arrested on Wednesday for failing to register as a predatory offender.

Police Captain John Sherwin says 33-year-old Terry Heggs was released from prison in August after serving a sentence for his conviction from charges stemming from a shooting outside the former Aquarius Bar in 2009, followed by a sexual assault involving a 16-year-old girl and a drug bust in 2010. A provision of his sentence requires Heggs to register as a sex offender for 10 years.

While he was free on probation last year, Heggs was arrested during a drug raid in Rochester and told the court he wanted to go back to prison to serve out the remainder of his sentence behind bars instead of another stint on supervised release.

He is currently being held on $25,000 unconditional bail and is due to make his next court appearance on November 9th.
