It appears a downtown Rochester landmark will likely fall to the wrecking ball next year.

Rochester developer Gus Chafoulias is acquiring the Michael’s Restaurant property, which is located across Broadway from his planned Broadway on Center development. A spokesperson for Titan Development has confirmed an agreement has been reached to purchase the Michael’s Restaurant site, but also indicated that a number of details still need to be worked out.

City officials earlier indicated Chafoulias was negotiating with the owners of the restaurant and intended to develop the property in order to facilitate a skyway connection to the 23 story hotel, apartment, office and retail complex planned at the corner of Broadway and East Center Street.

Michael’s Restaurant opened its doors in 1951 and has long been a favorite fine eating establishment for both Rochester residents and visitors.
