Rochester (KROC AM News) - Rochester police arrested a teenager Wednesday night after he was spotted  with a gun.  And even though it turned out to be a pellet gun, police are concerned because it looked like a real weapon.

Police Captain John Sherwin says a 911 call was made at 10 p.m. about the teenager who was in the downtown area of 1st Avenue and 2nd Street. Officers located the teenager right away and ordered him to keep his hands in sight as they tried frisking him. Sherwin says the teen ignored the orders and then began reaching behind his back. He then took off running and the handgun fell out of his pocket.

The officers caught the teen a short distance away. He told them the gun was not a real weapon and questioned why he was being arrested.  Officers checked the gun and discovered it was a very realistic-looking revolver model that included bullets that also looked like the real thing.

Sherwin says the incident could have had a tragic ending had the teenager threatened the officers with the gun.

Sherwin says the 17 year old is expected to face charges.
