The meeting will take place March 15th from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the John Marshall High School cafeteria. The school district is hoping to hear from members of the public who have ideas or suggestions on ways the schools can effectively address the disproportionate number of black students facing suspension or other disciplinary actions. Superintendent Michael Munoz says it's part of the agreement worked out with the federal Office for Civil Rights, which began investigating and monitoring the school district after a parent filed a complaint about 5 years ago.

Munoz says the school district is also preparing to conduct an all day training session for all staff that will results in a one day cancellation of school in May. A national expert is being brought in to work with teachers and other district employees on some strategies that can help prevent conflicts from escalating to the point that student has to be removed from the classroom.

Incidentally, the Superintendent's unusual outfit is actually a Batman costume he wore during his visit to KROC-AM between stops at elementary schools for program that used Super Heroes to promote reading.

The Superintendent appears monthly on KROC-AM with Tracy McCray and Andy Brownell during the Rochester Today show from 10 to 11 a.m. He usually stops by the radio studio on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
