I don’t know about you, but I’ve been enjoying the relatively low cost of gasoline lately. I remember years ago when paying at the pump was always a horrendous money-sucking experience; it got to the point where I was overly conscious about driving anywhere. It seemed like the days of being able to go on carefree road trips were long gone. While that’s probably good for the environment, it’s not the most practical thing if your job makes you commute daily – or if you want to travel. So for me, it’s cool that gas is a little more affordable these days. You know what’s even cooler? It’s about to get even more affordable.

A lot of us will likely be traveling over the Fourth of July holiday, so I have some good news for you. According to the consumer data tool GasBuddy, prices of gasoline are projected to be around a nationwide average of $2.21 per gallon, which is the lowest it’s been on the 4th since 2005.

That’s all the incentive I need to go on a mini road trip over the 4th. And since you can fish for free in many of Minnesota’s state parks, this might be one of the best Independence Days in quite some time.

By the way, according to GasBuddy, these are the 5 cheapest gas stations in Rochester:

1. Costco on Commerce Dr NW
2. Holiday on 40th Ave NW
3. Hy-Vee on 3rd Ave NW
4. Cenex on E River Rd NE
5. Casey's on 18th Ave NW
