I was at Hy-Vee Barlow Plaza last week and a young woman and I were looking at bags of salad. And then this happened...

She's holding a bag of Popeye Spinach and says to me, "Who is Popeye?"

I respond, "Why, he's the guy that eats spinach and beats up people."

"Seriously?"

"Yep... for real."

Now, if you watch the video, you'll see this is a long-time issue for me. Why would anyone pay to use Popeye the Sailor Man for their mascot? It's so out of date. Or so I thought.

It turns out, a TON of people use Popeye to push their products... not just spinach.

According to WIKIthe veggie-loving man with a pipe pushed... candy cigarettes!

World Candies Inc. produced Popeye-branded "candy cigarettes", which were small sugar sticks with red dye at the end to simulate a flame. They were sold in a small box, similar to a cigarette pack. The company still produces the item, but has since changed the name to "Popeye Candy Sticks" and has ceased putting the red dye at the end.

Well, that's awful.

If you've never seen Popeye eat his spinach, well, you're in luck...
