Boating while intoxicated was a factor in half of the deadly boating accidents in Minnesota last year, so the Minnesota DNR is sending out extra enforcement to help put a crackdown on intoxicated boaters.

With the holiday weekend coming up, the MN DNR, county sheriff's offices and other public safety agencies will send out extra enforcement apart of Operation Dry Water, a national campaign aimed to stop drinking and boating.

Officials will be available to discuss current efforts to crack down on BWI (Boating While Intoxicated) on the St. Croix River, where officers make many BWI arrests each year. The campaign will be in effect this weekend, June 29-July 1.

Be careful if you are on the water this weekend, as many people are out and about and tend to have a few cold ones while on the water. Be smart and be safe.
