Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A group of young professionals in Rochester is adding to the list of activities planned as part of the community’s celebration of the Fourth of July holiday.

The group, known as The Commission, will be holding a Car and Motorcycle show, a BMX and Skate Contest, and a Block Party on 7th Street Northeast in the vicinity of the Silver Lake Swimming Pool. The car show will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., while the bike and skate contest at the Silver Lake Skate Park will run from noon until 5 p.m. The Salute to the Fourth Block Party is an all day affair. It’ss scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and last until midnight.

Admission to the block party is $5, and fees will be charged to the participants in the 2 other events, with the proceeds going to the City of Rochester to help pay for the annual fireworks show at Silver Lake Park.

The fireworks show will begin around 10 p.m. following a free performance by the Rochester Concert Band at the Silver Lake soccer field starting at 8:30 p.m.

Another of the community’s traditional Independence Day festivities will also continue this year. The annual Jaycees 4th of July Kid’s Parade will move through an area on the south edge of downtown Rochester Saturday morning beginning at 10 a.m. Registration for the popular event begins at 9:30 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, and the procession will run from the church to the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial on 4th Avenue Southwest.

The SkiDox Waterski Team will also be performing a special holiday show Saturday afternoon on Lake Zumbro at Fisherman’s Inn beginning at 1 p.m.
