Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The north precinct being rolled out by the Rochester Police Department will also be home to a Gold Cross ambulance crew.

The City Council has approved plans to have the Mayo Clinic-owned service move an ambulance crew into an unused vehicle bay at the facility, located at the former Think Bank property along 41st St and West River Road NW. The city bought the property last year for $3.2 million and the police department began planning to relocate 25 personnel to the site.

Gold Cross told the city that the new precinct would be a strategic location to provide increased emergency ambulance service to north Rochester. The council was told there will be little cost to the city for the use of the facility and Gold Cross has agreed to pay for costs associated with the use of the vehicle bay.

In a memo to the city council, the police department said, “This partnership would provide benefits to the safety of the citizens of Rochester who would receive improved medical response. There are also advantages to police staff who respond regularly side by side with Gold Cross to local emergencies. Gold Cross and the Rochester Police Department have a good working relationship and this agreement is expected to enhance the ability of both agencies to effectively respond to emergencies in the city.”
