St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Governor Mark Dayton has ordered all state and US flags be flown at half staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday to honor a Green Beret who grew up in Minnesota.

31-year-old Staff Sergeant Adam Thomas was killed by a roadside bomb explosion while he was on patrol in northwestern Afghanistan on October 4th.

The decorated soldier attended elementary school in the St. Peter area and was a 2007 graduate of Saint Olaf College in Northfield. He is survived by his wife and his parents, who currently live in the Marshall area.

Staff Sergeant Thomas was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado, where a memorial service will be held on Saturday.
