Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Construction workers stayed busy in Rochester in May as the city approved more than 200 new building permits.

The value of the permits that were approved last month was $19.4 million. That pushed the year-to-date total over $200-million. Homebuilders took out 19 permits for new single family houses. The year to date total of 111 is just two fewer than at the same time a year ago.

One of the permits approved during May was for alteration work at the Minnesota Medical Solutions store located at Chateau Plaza near the Shopko North store. It was valued at $284,000. The store plans to begin selling medical marijuana next month.

A $3.3 million permit for the new Senior Center project was also issued during May.
