Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - A good crowd turned out Saturday night for a holiday show put on by The New Standards at Rochester’s Mayo Civic Center.

It wasn’t quite a sellout but the crowd was very responsive to the group’s professionalism, humor, holiday spirit, variations of Christmas classic songs and a full compliment of musicians. Joining the group during its two-part show were bagpipers, strings, horns,a drummer, dancers and a 14 year old who sang an incredible version of John Lennon’s “Across the Universe.” She transitioned the song into the tail end of Lennon’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” bringing many in the audience to their feet.

Also joining the group for a few songs were local popular musicians/singers Brandon Sampson and Annie Mack.

It was the band’s final show of the 2015 holiday tour and it included “snow” that fell toward the end of the gig.

The group is expected to put on another holiday show in Rochester during 2016 - and that one MAY be a sellout based on comments from Saturday night’s crowd.
