I haven't found any gold bars or nuggets hidden in Rochester but there is a treasure hunt that will be starting soon for kids in the area!  Gold bookmobiles will soon be hidden throughout the city and if you are the lucky treasure hunter, you will be the new owner of a Target gift card and other great prizes!

The Rochester Public Library will be launching the 2018 Summer Playlist program the week of June 4th and they are kicking off this very popular program with some fun for kids and families!  Watch the library's social media pages for updates but here are the basics of the treasure hunt for gold:

  • 20 golden bookmobiles will be hidden throughout the community in mini-libraries.
  • Find a golden bookmobile and win a prize that includes a bookbag, Summer Playlist t-shirt, and a $25 Target gift card!
  • Fun with riddles!  After each gold bookmobile is found, one word will be revealed for a twenty-word riddle.  If you solve it correctly, you will be entered into a drawing to win a $50 Target gift card!

The "Summer Playlist" program at the Rochester Public Library has helped children, teens, and adults learn more about the community and participate in a variety of activities.  Learn more about this fun, summer activity here.

In 2017, the "Summer Playlist" program saw an increase in participation by 52%.  According to Head of Marketing and Community Engagement, Karen Lemke, the results surpassed the library’s expectations.  Those results and some creative techniques led to the campaign being selected as one of eight winners of the 2018 John Cotton Dana Public Relations Award.  Staff from the library will attend the American Library Association Conference in New Orleans in June and they will also receive a $10,000 cash prize!

Congratulations to all of the staff at the Rochester Public Library for this amazing accomplishment!  Our community is lucky to have such a great program!
