Is “Shocking” Ever Considered “Funny”? OR What Makes You Laugh?

Really? What's so funny?

Cathy and I have different tastes in comedy. She's not a fan of Mel Brooks. I could watch Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein over and over. I could do a whole marathon including High Anxiety and Spaceballs. I love Abbott and Costello, The Marx Brothers and The Three Stooges. I could spend a whole day re-watching Galaxy Quest. Believe it or not that was rated as THE best Star Trek movie! (Hint: It's not a Star Trek movie.) Everybody has different tastes in comedy and different opinions. I don't love my wife less because she doesn't laugh the same way I do. I love her more, because she's different. She's this whole other person; with thoughts and interests and opinions.

It takes all kinds to make a world, right? Everybody's got an opinion.

The one thing that's been bothering me that I think I might need some help with is this. Is "shocking" ever "funny". "Surprising" is funny. Jim Carrey and Alec Baldwin seem to think a bloody severed head is witty political satire.

Senator Al Franken is currently on a book tour. He's had to rethink who he'll be appearing with on this book tour because folks are upset over "shocking". Are you upset over "shocking"?
