Remember the Segway? It was all the rage back in 2001. There was plenty of hype behind that two-wheeled, self-balancing, battery-powered electric vehicle. It was teased as "It" and "Ginger" and some people said it would be bigger than the PC. Oops! Didn't quite live up to the hype. Sure you still may see a few around today, but it never became something everyone just had to have.

Now there's something new out there called The WalkCar. It surely doesn't have the hype that the Segway did, but it's pretty cool in its own way. The WalkCar looks like it might be a little easier to maneuver than the Segway, plus it's much smaller. It's about the size of a typical laptop computer and is probably the smallest personal transportation device you'll ever see. The WalkCar can go uphill and it stops as soon as you jump off. Plus if you get tired of using it, just pick it up and carry it with you.

I'm not sure people will use this to replace cars or even bikes, but it may have some practical uses such as getting around at airports. Right now they're a bit pricey, but if they take off and become popular, they'll likely become mass produced and the price will drop. The question remains...will the WalkCar actually become the next big thing or will history repeat itself and it winds up becoming no more than the Seqway part deux?
