It was on this day in 1935 that beer was first sold in a can. Let's pop a top and celebrate! The first beer in a can was brewed at Krueger Brewing Company in Richmond Virginia. It's kind of funny because back then, they were made of steel and weighed 4 oz. (about 15 grams today) Not only that but you needed a church key can opener to open it. We've all used one at some point, I'm sure.

Back then, people actually liked the can better than the bottle.

It wasn't until 1963 that the "pull top" was invented. For those of you too young to remember what those looked like, here's a video.

Then, 12 years later, we got the "stay tab" which is what is pretty much used today.

So let's celebrate "Beer Can Appreciation Day" by crackin' open a cold one!
