You've probably driven by it before. It's right near Rochester Meats and the new Casey's (over near the main post office). It's been in town since the 70's and they're now working on a $28 Million addition, yet no one seems to know what they make.

I'll give you a hint. You probably eat some every day. Or maybe just on weekends. Any guesses?  OK, I'll tell you, but you're going to feel silly for NOT guessing. ((ahem)) Among other things, this factory makes active cultures! I don't know if it's Lactobacillus acidophilus or Lactobacillus casei, but one of the things they make at Kerry is active cultures for yogurt.

And the active cultures are one of the big reasons you eat yogurt. For the probiotics! They make your tum-tum sooooo happy.

The complex used to be called Quest International Food Ingredients, then Kerry, an Irish Company, bought it in 2004.

The Post-Bulletin described what they make this way, "Kerry's Rochester facility makes fermented ingredients. That includes lactic acid bacteria for processed meat and cultured dairy products, cultured ingredients for extending a product's shelf-life and cultural dairy solids for stabilizing ice cream as well as improving "mouthfeel."

None of that makes much sense to me, but knowing they make the stuff that makes yogurt possible is good enough for mme. Big yogurt fan here. However, mouthfeel? That's a weird word, but I get it. I just don't wanna think about it, I guess.
