Kvenvold Announces Retirement Date
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Longtime Rochester City Administrator Steve Kvenvold has informed Mayor Brede, the City Council and other city employees he intends to retire at the end of May.
Kvenvold announced his retirement decision in late November but did not set a date.
Kvenvold has been a city employee for nearly 50 years. He worked as an assistant administrator before being appointed to the top position in June 1979. His job is the highest non-elective position in city government.
Kvenvold - who serves at the whim of the city council - has worked under five mayors and five council presidents.
The 73-year-old says he has no immediate retirement plans. He has offered his services to work with staff after his retirement on any unfinished issues without pay.
The City Council is scheduled to vote Monday on a recommendation to appoint Assistant Administrator Gary Neumann to fill the vacancy while a nationwide search is conducted for a successor.
