Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - An Olmsted County Jury has found a Stewartville man guilty of second-degree assault for a shooting in Rochester last summer. The jury acquitted 23-year-old Gerardo Esquivel-Olveda of an attempted murder charge and a drive-by shooting charge was earlier dismissed by the judge presiding over the case.

Esquivel-Olveda was arrested last August after he was identified as the person who shot another man in the abdomen during a confrontation in front of a home along 4th Street Southeast near St. Francis Church. The 23-year-old victim in the case was initially listed in critical condition.

The criminal complaint stated the shooting was connected to an ongoing dispute between the two men involving a woman, who was later charged with aiding an offender. 21-year-old Artisha Blackman was put on trial with Esquivel-Olveda, but the jury found her not guilty in the case.

The sentencing hearing for Esquivel-Olveda has been scheduled for the afternoon of July 30th.
