BEMIDJI, Minn. (AP) — A 33-year-old Bemidji man is in custody after a 10-mile chase in which he allegedly stole a squad car while armed with a shotgun.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says a Hubbard County deputy and a Becker County deputy fired their weapons during the chase.

It happened Friday, after a Becker County deputy saw a vehicle believed to be linked to a theft in Detroit Lakes. A pursuit began near Shell Lake and the vehicle was stopped near Two Inlets.

The BCA says the man then approached the deputies with a shotgun. They took cover, and he got into a Becker County squad car and fled.

The deputies fired their weapons. The squad car was eventually stopped. The man suffered minor injuries that don't appear to be from the shots fired.
