An Olmsted County judge has issued a temporary restraining order against a former top Mayo Clinic executive that prevents him from working for a New Jersey firm.

Mayo requested the order after it filed a lawsuit against Dr. Franklin Cockerill that alleges he stole trade secrets prior to his retirement from his job as President and CEO of Mayo Medical Labs. The suit claims Dr. Cockerill deceived his coworkers into believing he was planning to assist his elderly mother in Nebraska while he was actually preparing to join Quest Diagnostics, which is described as a major competitor of Mayo Medical Labs.

In issuing the temporary restraining order, the judge stated that based on the evidence submitted, there is a reasonable likelihood that Mayo will prevail in the case.
