This year’s Mayor’s Award went to Rochester Fire Department Battalion Chief Eric Kerska. Brede focused on Kerska’s service in the Minnesota National Guard, which is coming to an end after 32 years.  Kerska rose to the rank of colonel  as a member of the 34th Infantry Red Bull Division. He was deployed three times while a member of the Fire Department.

Also recognized was Joyce Lewis, who received this year’s Heroism Award for helping save the life of a woman she knows who had suffered a stroke and was home alone for two days before she was found.

Police officer Don Bray was given the City Service Award for his involvement in providing lodging and hospitality to law enforcement families that come to Rochester for medical treatment.
