The 6th annual Med City BBQ takes place this Friday and Saturday (August 7-8) at the Olmsted County Fairgrounds. This event is a major fundraiser for two important charities that help youth in the community, the Rochester Police Athletic League (PAL) and the Rochester Police Benevolent Association (RPBA). RPBA funds raised specifically support the RPBA’s “House of Shields”, which provides free housing to Law Enforcement families from around the world that are treating at the Mayo Clinic.

The Med City BBQ is a Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sponsored BBQ contest that features some of the best cook teams in the country. This FREE ADMISSION event opens to the public at 5pm on Friday and features a beer garden, food vendors, raffle tickets, games, and a free outdoor concert featuring Martin Zellar as the headliner! There will also be a People’s Choice Chicken Wing contest at 7pm (wristbands on sale at 6:45) where citizens get to try chicken wings made by several different teams and then judge their favorites. This is an all you can eat event and will consist of over 600 lbs of wings served!

Saturday opens to the public at 10 am and allows the opportunity to view the cook teams as they scramble to get their food entries turned in starting at noon. It’s a great learning experience for those interested in outdoor cooking. Beer garden and food vendors are also available Saturday and end with the cook’s award ceremony and raffle drawing around 4 pm.
