There have been so many recalls this past week, I can't even keep track. Last week, we announced the latest strain of Salmonella was showing signs of antibiotic resistance. It was suggested that the strain was widespread in the chicken industry. Judging by the latest recall, they weren't wrong.

One food manufacturing company has recalled nearly 800,000 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products. They are just one of a dozen companies that have recalled premade food items. An onion ingredient in the premade food has also been linked to potential Salmonella and Listeria contamination.

Millions of pounds of ready-to-eat salads and premade food items including entrees, burritos, wraps, and pizzas at several big-name retailers such as Trader Joe's and Walmart have been recalled.

Perhaps the most alarming part of this whole ordeal is seeing how complex our food system is today. KARE 11 quoted a senior food policy analyst for Consumers Union saying "when you buy something from the store, it's possible the company that produced it was three companies ago. This recall could impact tens of thousands of people, if not more."
