St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - An annual report on crime in Minnesota was released Friday by the State Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

It shows the state experienced a slight decrease in the overall number of serious crimes last year despite a significant increase in violent crimes and a spike in the number of homicides. The BCA says there were 130 murders in Minnesota in 2015, compared to 82 the previous year, which works out to an increase of nearly 60-percent.

The number of rapes was up over 16-percent last year at 2300, the number of assaults rose 5.7-percent and robberies were up 3.6-percent. The report also shows a huge increase in the number of crimes involving human trafficking. The number involving prostitution and other commercial sex offenses jumped 205-percent to 119 last year.

State officials put the overall number of serious crimes statewide in 2015 at just under 135,400, which was down 1.2-percent from 2014.
