Motorcyclist Killed In Wabasha Wreck

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - An Illinois man was killed Sunday after crashing his motorcycle into a pickup truck north of Wabasha.

The State Patrol says both vehicles were southbound on Highway 61 around 9:30 a.m. when the Northfield man driving the truck began making a left turn onto Grant Boulevard. The Patrol says that’s when the 45 year old Illinois man driving the motorcycle began passing the truck and struck it broadside. The Patrol says 45 year old Troy Malek of Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois died at the scene.

The State Patrol has identified a man who was killed when a tree fell onto the pickup truck he was driving in Houston County Saturday morning. The victim was 50-year-old Wayne Burkhardt of West Salem, Wisconsin. The Patrol says he was driving on Highway 26 near Brownsville  when a tree fell from a bluff and landed on the windshield and roof of the pickup. Burkhardt's 51-year-old wife and 16-year-old daughter suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The State Patrol is reporting two other fatal traffic wrecks that occurred over the weekend, including one involving a motorcyclist in Sherburne County.
