The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says a large mudslide triggered by this week’s torrential rains destroyed two homes in Henderson.

20 Minnesota National Guard soldiers have been deployed in the Sibley County city to help monitor critical flood control infrastructure along the rising Minnesota River. The National Weather Service is forecasting the river to crest early next week at a level that is just two feet short of the all-time record.

In St. Paul, the the National Weather Service says crest is expected Wednesday or Thursday at nearly 20 feet, high enough to cause major flooding. It’s already prompted the organizers of the popular Taste of Minnesota event to abandon plans hold the festival on Harriet Island.
