National Night Out is Tuesday
Get to know your neighbors during “National Night Out”, Tuesday August 5th. National Night Out involves nearly 38-million people people in over 16,000 communities in all 50 states, US Territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.
This is a big annual event in Rochester which took 3rd place last year in the national competition with 41,800 people pre-registered at 165 events. This year’s goal is 50,000 people and 200 events!
National Night Out is designed to:
Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
Generate support for local anti-crime programs
Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
What can you do?
Talk to your neighbors and organize a picnic
Turn your porch lights on during National Night Out
Start a Neighborhood Watch by calling the Crime Prevention Unit (507) 328-6890
Be outside to meet neighbors and turn off crime and drugs
