ST. JOSEPH (WJON/Townsquare Media)  – Standing in front of a throng of cameras and reporters, Jerry and Patti Wetterling stood in their driveway and addressed the media about recent developments in the abduction of Jacob Wetterling.

Patti Wetterling said they are thankful for all of the support from law enforcement, the community and the media but the work is not done…

We still don’t know who took Jacob. We have as many questions, or more, as all of you. And, we will let law enforcement and the courts, and the process continue and we’ll watch impatiently for answers. The one question that we have said for 26 years is “Where’s Jacob?”

The Wetterlings say someone out there has information about Jacob’s abduction and their hoping they come forward with information.

Wetterling says we all need to stand up for our children and do our part to make this world a safe place for kids to grow up and realize their dreams.

We were caught off guard like all of you, and we don’t have the answers yet. But, I refuse to be silent. I know that there’s more good people in the world than bad. When good people pull together amazing things happen, and that’s what we need to focus on.

Patti Wetterling said it is every adult’s responsibility to make sure our children grow up in a safe community.

Last week, authorities identified 52-year-old Daniel James Heinrich as a “person of interest” in Jacob’s disappearance, but refused to call him a suspect. They say Heinrich has denied involvement. He faces unrelated child pornography charges.
