Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - It appears a proposal aimed at allowing Rochester teenagers to get a little bit more sleep will have to be scuttled.

Rochester Public Schools Superintendent Michael Munoz says the cost of running the school bus system for younger children while having older students transported on Rochester Public Transit buses appears to be prohibitively high, particularly when it comes to transporting the school district’s special needs students. He notes that even without making any changes, the cost of transporting students will rise about 10-percent next year, largely because of steps taken by First Student to retain and attract school bus drivers.

Munoz says he will bring his recommendation, which will likely call for abandoning the plan, to the school board next month.
