Several young ladies from southeast Minnesota have been named among the 12 finalists who will potentially wear the crown as the Minnesota State Fair's 'Princess Kay of the Milky Way' in August.

All the finalists have been county dairy princesses, and all either come from dairy farm families or work on dairy farms. The finalists were named this weekend at an event in St. Cloud, Minnesota, as nearly 50 young women who were under consideration.

Our area finalists include:

Kalley Berg, 20, Pine Island
Annette Kyllo, 23, Byron
Haley Hinrichs, 18, Goodhue
Makaila Klejeski, 18, Claremont
Kayla Leiding, 19, Fountain
Stephanie Sukalski, 19, LeRoy

That means that half the finalists live or grew up within 40 miles of the Med City!

The winner will be crowned in August, just before the opening of this year's state fair. She will then have a butter sculpture carved in her likeness during the fair that will be on display for the entire running of the fair.

This year's 'Princess Kay of the Milky Way' will be the 63rd crowned princess. After the fair, the princess will travel around the state representing the Midwest Dairy Association and talking about the milk-producing industry.
