Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester City Council has narrowed the list of proposals for the Armory building to two and directed staff to begin in-depth discussions with the groups.

The council recently heard from five groups. The two that are still in the running are:

  • Castle Community, which would operate as a public/private project and include public space, a restaurant and bookstore
  • Entourage Events Group and Fine Line Cafe, proposed by a well known Twin Cities operator. It proposes renovating the building to bring back its original look and offering live entertainment and other events

One issue the council is still considering is the future of two nearby city-owned parking lots. Most council members favor retaining ownership of the lots and working out a lease agreement with the group that takes ownership of the Armory.

Staff is expected to return with a report on negotiations with the two groups in early July.
