Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - It looks like it’s a go for a major renovation of the north police station in NW Rochester.

Although the City Council did not take a formal vote at Wednesday’s meeting, there was consensus to include the project in the city’s new capital improvement program.

Unless there is a last-minute change in direction, this likely means design work will take place next year and construction would begin in 2020. The option favored by the council does include an enclosed parking facility for police vehicles.

It also calls for the location of what’s being called a One Stop Shop or service center. The new office would include building safety, community development and public works personnel. It’s estimated the overall project will cost around $22-million.

The council also indicated it will not support a request from 125 Live for more funding to help cover its 2019 budget. The current proposal calls for the city to give the organization $120,000. It is requesting a $90,000 increase but based on Wednesday’s council discussion, it will be rejected.
