Rochester Drowning Victim Identified

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the young man who drowned Saturday in Rochester’s Silver Creek reservoir.

20-year-old Nicholas Borth of Stewartville was fishing with a friend when their canoe capsized around 9 a.m. The other man made it safely to shore. Borth’s body was found about three hours later.  He was a Rochester John Marshall graduate.

His friend says the canoe apparently capsized when the two cast their fishing lines at the same time from the same side. The men were about 50 yards from shore at the time.

The victim’s friend swam to shore and began yelling for help. Two Rochester men – 24-year-old Robert Van Keulen and 19-year-old Troy Green – had arrived a few minutes earlier and heard the man and called 911. Green jumped into the water, swam to the capsized canoe and flipped it over but there was no sign of Borth.
