Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A young Rochester girl was taken to St. Marys Hospital Wednesday after being struck by a car.

Police say the 8-year-old was struck near the intersection of 6th St and 5th Ave SE near Riverside School around 5:45 PM.

Police say the girl was walking with her mother in the parking lane on 6th St. when she was apparently struck by a mirror on the car. Her injuries were described as minor.

The girl told officers she was walking on the street because the sidewalk was icy.

The driver of the car - 71-year-old Say Son of Rochester- told officers he did not see the girl, who was walking near a parked vehicle when she was hit. He also said traffic "was heavy" at the time.
